Tourist Weekend Encourages "stay-cations"

Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau

Quad City residents looking to get away this weekend won't have to go far. The Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau will host its 15th annual "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard Weekend."

Spokeswoman Jessica Waytenick says the promotion includes discounts at over 50 area businesses, from restaurants to spas. And the weekend gives people a break from their usual routine.
Waytenick says families usually don't visit local tourist attractions during the winter months. She's hoping promotions at places like the Quad City Botanical Center and iWireless Center will remind families that there is a lot do in their own backyards, especially for when family and friends visit.

When family and friends visit, there's plenty to do right in the Quad Cities.

Coupon booklets will be available at participating businesses and online at www.QCbeatourist.com.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
