MVBS Trying to Bring Back Blues Fest

Mississippi Valley Blues Society

The Mississippi Valley Blues Society is trying to bring back the decades-long tradition of Blues Fest in the Quad Cities. The annual Blues Festival in Davenport was canceled this summer, for the first time in 30 years.

President Steve Heston says the Blues Society will decide at its March 8th meeting whether it can host a Blues Fest next summer. It has to raise up to $30,000.
Heston says the festival was canceled this year because of financial issues. The Blues Society has lost money in recent years because of flooding at LeClaire Park in Davenport, during July 4th weekend, when the festival usually takes place.

The Blues Society is trying to gain support in an online voting campaign, sponsored by MoonShare Distilling Company. If the non-profit gains enough support, it could win $5,000. Voting ends January 31st.

The Mississippi Valley Blues Society is also holding a fundraiser concert next Sunday (1/17) in Rock Island.
