Local Veteran to Receive Home Repairs

The home of a Vietnam War veteran will be fixed up in time for the holidays. Gunter Terronez, who survived two helicopter crashes as a gunner, says his home in Silvis needs ceiling and basement repairs.

Rebuilding Together, a charitable home-repair organization, answered the call. With help from the Lowe's Foundation, the organization will supply up to a dozen volunteers for a workday tomorrow.

Development Director Rod Jennings says a strong volunteer base lets Rebuilding Together do nearly 50 projects like this every year.
Over 300 volunteers contribute to projects totaling nearly $100,000 every year. Terronez himself applied for help in November.

Terronez says he couldn't be happier with the help he's been receiving.

Terronez says with help from Rebuiling Together, he'll be able both to keep his house and send his grandson to the University of Iowa.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
