Some low income elementary and middle school students in Moline will be warmer this winter thanks to a 66 year old fundraiser. The Share Joys campaign raises money for winter clothing and shoes, and it's organized by students at Moline High School and the Parent Teacher Association (PTSA).
Kelly Head, president of the PTSA, says last year, 60 gift baskets were donated for the Share Joys Auction, and this year there will be up to 75.
The Share Joys auction raised around $50,000 last year.
After the money is raised from the auction and other events including the doughnut eating contest, Head says a group of high school students go shopping with children who've been selected by their principals and teachers.
The Share Joys auction will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday at the Brix Restaurant in Moline.
Share Joys this year will also include the annual doughnut eating competition on Wednesday and a talent show next week.
