A Reason to Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet

TheSilverPen.com

Residents of Rock Island County have a reason to clean out their medicine cabinets this weekend. Tomorrow is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and residents have a choice of three locations in the county, to drop off expired or unwanted pills.

From 10 am to 2 pm, people can drop off pills or patches at the Rock Island County Justice Center, Milan Police Department, and Silvis Police Department

Regional Superintendent of Schools, Tammy Muerhoff, says it's a rare opportunity to safely dispose of prescription drugs

She says keeping unused pills is dangerous because young people may be tempted to steal and abuse them. And, throwing out or flushing drugs is harmful to the water supply and environment.

Tomorrow, residents can drive up and drop off their prescription drugs. Then, they'll be sent to the Drug Enforcement Administration to be incarcerated.

This is the third year Rock Island County has participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. In the previous two years, almost 900 pounds of prescription drugs have been collected.
