Bettendorf YMCA Breaks Ground for Expansion

A children's playground, a cross training center, and two basketball court's--that's all part of a two phase expansion at the YMCA in Bettendorf. Today, the Scott County Family Y broke ground for the 4.5 million dollar project, which will almost double the size of the facility.

Doug Cropper, chief volunteer officer for the Scott County Family Y, says the project will result in more jobs and a healthier community.

Phase one of the project, which includes the children's play structure and 11-thousand  square foot cross training center, will be completed in November. Two basketball courts and an indoor track will be finished next summer.

Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher says the YMCA expansion is a result of the city's growth.

The project will also offer more outreach programs for cancer support, Parkinson's disease, and diabetes prevention.

The Bettendorf Y, located on Tanglefoot Lane, will remain open during the project.
