2,600 Volunteers to Participate in Day of Caring

Nearly 3,000 volunteers will read to children and clean up neighborhoods in the Quad Cities tomorrow. It's the 11th annual Day of Caring, and the beginning of this year's fundraising campaign for United Way of the Quad Cities.

President Scott Crane says teams of volunteers will work on 120 projects throughout the community, doing everything from painting offices to cleaning walking trails.

He says the one-day-event also includes the announcement of United Way's new fundraising goal.
United Way will announce how much its campaign raised this year, and what its new goal is, at the RiverCenter in Davenport, at 8 am. Afterward, 2,600 volunteers will go throughout the Quad Cities to complete projects.

Crane says since the first Day of Caring eleven years ago, more than 13,000 volunteers have donated their time, totaling 49,000 hours of volunteer work.
