Dubuque is Creating a Plan to Improve Arts and Culture

City of Dubuque

Dubuque is working with residents to turn the city into an "arts destination." Tonight, the city council will hear from a consulting firm about the development of an Arts and Culture Master Plan.

Arts and Cultural Affairs Coordinator, Debra Alleyne, says the art industry in Dubuque generates 47-million-dollars each year. And, that's without help from the city.
She thinks the art industry's economic impact could be even larger with city involvement. And Dubuque has hired a consulting firm, Lord Cultural Resources, to identify what arts programs are already available and what needs to be improved.

The city is currently in the second phase of the master plan, which involves surveying residents and holding community workshops. Alleyne says she wants to hear from every resident and business, to find out if they participate in arts activities and why.

She says the Arts and Culture Master Plan should be completed by the end of next year.

Tomorrow, residents can talk about their involvement in the arts, at a workshop at the Holiday Inn Dubuque Ben Bolt Conference Room, starting at 9 am.
