RAGBRAI Imminent

Davenport

After months of planning and preparation, the Quad Cities is getting ready for the arrival of thousands of bicycle riders. The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa, known as RAGBRAI, will end on Saturday in Davenport.

The ride began last Sunday in Sioux City, at the Missouri River, and after stops in Storm Lake, Fort Dodge, Eldora, and Cedar Falls, the route today goes from Hiawatha to Coralville. Then tomorrow morning, riders will travel through Iowa City, West Liberty, Wilton, Durant, and Walcott, before coming into Davenport and dipping their tires in the Mississippi River at Credit Island.

Hundreds of people have signed up to direct traffic, drive shuttle buses, and provide information to the riders, especially for those who might stay for the street fest and other events this weekend in the Quad Cities.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
