Quilts of Valor

Some veterans from the Quad Cities will be honored this weekend. They'll receive new quilts made by a group called Quilts of Valor.

Spokesman Clayton Peterson says the national organization was founded 11 years ago by a woman in California who thought a quilt might provide some comfort to her son who'd just come home from serving in the military.
Peterson says the Quad Cities chapter of Quilts of Valor has about 25 members who meet once a month. And as an Army veteran from the Vietnam War, he sees this as a way to help his "brother" veterans.

Quilts will be presented to 34 veterans on Sunday afternoon at the Masonic Center in Davenport, on Veterans Memorial Parkway.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
