Arsenal Island Road Work Finished

A traffic headache for Quad Cities motorists is about to end, at least two weeks ahead of schedule.

Road work at the intersection of Fort Armstrong Avenue and Rock Island Avenue, at the west end of Arsenal Island, is finished and starting Thursday morning, local drivers will be able to use the Rock Island Viaduct and Government Bridge.
The Army Garrison says they'll re-open at 5 am.
Since the project began in mid-April, Government Bridge has been limited to people driving to and from the Arsenal through the Davenport gate. The Rock Island gate to the installation was closed, along with the Rock Island viaduct.
The repair and construction project on Fort Armstrong Avenue was originally expected to last until the end of this month or early in June.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
