New Effort to Attract Young Workers

A new effort to attract and retain talented young people will begin this summer in the Quad Cities. Today the Young Professionals of the Quad Cities announced "InternQC."

Young Professionals director, Aiden Landman, says summer interns at companies and organizations will be invited to special luncheons to learn about business, politics, art, and sports. And they'll be taken to various events and festivals.

He estimates there are hundreds of college-age, summer interns working in the Quad Cities each year, and hopes 30 to 40 will participate during the first year of InternQC.

Employers can register their interns with the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, and programming will be held from early June through the end of August.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
