With help from federal money, Davenport is going to build some new houses in an old neighborhood. Today the city held a groundbreaking in the 700-block of East 6th Street for three homes made possible by Community Development Block Grants, and other federal programs.
Mayor Bill Gluba calls these programs a win-win for the city and its residents.
And they provide work for local contractors.
Wielding a shovel with the mayor was Iowa 2nd District Congressman Dave Loebsack. He says he'll continue to fight for this and similar programs in Washington.

Not just a give-away, but making a difference in people's lives.
Davenport officials hope these three, new homes will be just the start in their effort to revitalize this neighborhood.
The contractor for this project will be Daxon Construction.
