A sure sign of spring has made its annual return to the Quad Cities. On Sunday, the River Bandits baseball team arrived at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, and began preparing for the new season of the Midwest League that begins on Thursday.
For manager Josh Bonifay, this will be his first year with the River Bandits and first time in the Midwest League. And he says his job this week is to make sure the players know everything about their home stadium.
He and the team are also getting to the know the Quad Cities, starting with a meeting Monday night with River Bandits season ticket holders.
Following an eight-year playing career, Bonifay has worked for the River Bandits'
parent team, the Houston Astros, as a hitting coach for two years, and as a manager for the past two seasons.
The River Bandits open the new season Thursday night, at Peoria. Their first home game will be Sunday against Clinton.
