Naibi Zoo opens today

The Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley opens today (mon) for the new season, with free admission, and new exhibits.

Zoo Director, Marc Heinzman, says several projects were completed in the off-season, including a new koi pond pavilion and building renovation.

The meerkats have not arrived at the zoo yet, but visitors will be able to see the new habitat. Heinzman says the zoo is waiting for a federal permit before it can bring in the meerkats.

The zoo is also waiting to display the newest addition to the giraffe family- a male born last month.
Niabi Zoo will be open seven days a week, and is offering free admission this week.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
