Davenport to Renovate Central Fire Station

Davenport is giving its Central Fire Station a long-anticipated upgrade. Renovations of the 114 year old building will begin in April, following last week's decision by the city council to hire a construction manager.
Fire Chief Lynn Washburn says two later additions to the station will be demolished and replaced by a new space on the south side. The main goal is to increase the efficiency of the space, which currently houses three fire fighting companies.
She says the fifteen-million-dollar project will also allow more companies to use the station, plus there'll be more office space.

Davenport's Central Fire Station was built in 1901, and Washburn says one of her goals is to modernize it, but still preserve the building's historical elements.
The project should be completed by late next year.
