Visioning Workshop

What should downtown Rock Island look 10 years from now? That's the question to be explored tonight (Tuesday) at a "Visioning Workshop."

Brandy Howe, an Urban Planner for the city, says participants will meet in groups to come up with their vision of Rock Island's future downtown.

Tonight's workshop is the second public discussion this year. Howe says in October, people raised concerns about public safety, a negative reputation, vacancy rates, and the need for a variety of businesses downtown.

After the visioning workshop, the Rock Island Planning Commission will draw up a plan for the downtown, and after public comment, take it to the city council for its review.

The visioning workshop will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Establishment Theatre on 19th Street.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
