Bituminous Insurance Companies Under New Name

A company founded in the Quad Cities nearly 100 years ago has changed its name. Last week, Bituminous Insurance Companies announced it will now be called BITCO.
BITCO was founded in 1917 in Rock Island. And, despite the new name, the company says it will provide the same insurance services to special industries, including construction, forest products, oil, and gas. And, BITCO will continue to operate as a subsidiary of Old Republic International Corporation.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
