Two new projects will improve transportation in Galesburg. Thursday, the city will break ground on a new Transit Maintenance Facility and for the expansion of the Amtrak station.
City spokesman, Kraig Boynton, says both projects are being funded by federal and state grants. The nearly 5 million dollar Transit Maintenance Facility will put Galesburg Transit and Handivan vehicles under one roof.
Boynton says the lower costs will directly benefit tax payers. And, Amtrack passengers will soon enjoy a larger facility.
The 730-thousand dollar Amtrak station expansion will include improvements to restrooms, more storage space, and a waiting area for passengers of the intercity bus-line, Burlington Trailways.
The two projects should be completed by next September.
