Food Hub Grant

WVIK Staff

Local farmers are celebrating today. The Quad City Food Hub has just received a major federal grant to help support and expand the organization.

Based at the Freight House in downtown Davenport, the Food Hub offers a place for Quad Cities farmers to sell their products.
Iowa Second District Congressman Dave Loebsack says the $600,000 grant comes from the the US Department of Health. and the expansion will improve people's health and create up to 30 jobs.

Food Hub Vice President, Cindy Hileman, says the Food Hub plans expand slowly. And the grant provides an opportunity to hire more people who can help the Hub grow.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
