RiverChor Fall Concert - "What We Need is Here"
Riverchor is pleased to present their fall choral concert on Sunday, November 15th, 2:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 439 3rd Ave S, in Clinton, Iowa. Admission is free, donations are welcome and appreciated.
The concert, titled “What We Need is Here”, isn’t so much a theme as it is a feeling.
“It’s my first full concert conducting these wonderful singers, and what better time to choose a menagerie of personal favorites?” new director Kristen laughs. “These are all songs I’ve either performed myself, or fallen in love with over the years.”
And what a menagerie, indeed, starting off strong with the popular Shaker tune “Lord of the Dance” (but with a twist!), and ending with “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”, Rutter-style.
Keep your ear out for a hilarious song about a scarecrow with “Terrible Tale of Tom Gilligan”, a tongue-twisting spiritual “Poor Man Lazarus”, and the dramatic “Bogoroditse Devo”, written in church Slavonic, sprinkled among rousing songs like “Zion’s Walls” and “The Awakening”, a favorite of the choir that showcases our pianist, Christine Holmer.
Rounding out the repertoire are the classic “Locus Iste”, the true story of “Annie Laurie”, a soaring “Sing Gently”, and our title piece, “What We Need is Here”, affectionately called “Geese”.
“I wanted to have a series of songs that offered a variety of both emotion and technique, and I’d like to think I succeeded here. As for “Geese”? Well, you’ll just have to come to the concert and see.”
RiverChor Community Choir was founded in 2004. The forty-five singers hail from the Gateway Area communities of Clinton, Fulton, Morrison, Low Moor, Albany, Bryant, Tampico, Goose Lake, Sabula, and Davenport. More info on their website: https://RiverChor.org
