Loebsack Contests Trump's Stance on Wind Energy

Marianna Bacallao, WVIK News

Congressman Dave Loebsack visited Davenport today to campaign for Joe Biden. At LeClaire Park, Loebsack disparaged President Donald Trump's comments that windmills kill birds. He says it shows how little the president understands renewable energy.

"He doesn't know that we have 9,000 or 10,000 jobs in Iowa in the wind energy industry. He doesn't understand that farmers are making money on the land where those turbines are set up because they're paying those farmers for the use of that land. He doesn't understand what this does for the state of Iowa in terms of the cost of energy."

Loebsack credits MidAmerican Energy's low kilowatt per hour cost to the state's wind power. He says over 40% of Iowa's electricity comes from wind energy.

Loebsack currently represents Iowa's Second Congressional District. He retires this term after 14 years in office.
