Iowa Democrats Target Senator Ernst

WVIK News

The Iowa Democratic Party is ramping up its efforts to defeat Republican US Senator Joni Ernst in November. This week, it began a statewide tour focusing on health care, and what it calls her "disastrous record."

During a stop in Davenport Friday, Democratic Party Chair Mark Smith said health care is the most important issue this year for Iowa voters, and Ernst has voted to take health care away from seniors, women, families, and workers.

"From Medicare to Medicaid, to coverage of pre-existing conditions, to the rising cost of prescription drugs, to a woman's right to control her own body, Senator Ernst has refused to pass up an opportunity to be on the wrong side of the issue."

And he challenged Iowans to ask themselves, since Senator Ernst was elected, has their health care improved.

"Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to make sure that every single Iowan has the health care coverage and the services they need. We are fighting because health care is a universal right, not a political bargaining chip to be given away."

Smith launched the "Vote For Iowa's Health Care Tour" in Des Moines on Thursday, then followed up with stops in Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities Friday. The tour will head for western Iowa in the coming weeks.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
