A Davenport attorney wants Scott County government to be more accessible and representative. On Thursday, Jazmin Newton announced she's running for the board of supervisors.

Newton says it's not convenient for people to attend Scott County Board meetings first thing on Tuesday mornings.

And it's the only large county in Iowa that does not provide audio or video recordings of meetings online.

Newton is the president of the local LULAC council. That's the League of Latin American Citizens. And she's the Deputy State Director for Iowa LULAC. She says women are not proportionately represented on the board, and minorities aren't either.

Her parents brought her to East Moline when she was two-years-old, and is the first in her family to graduate from high school, college, and law school.

Two seats on the five member Scott County Board will be on the ballot in November.
