Presidential Candidates Join R.I. County Democrats

At least four Democratic presidential candidates will visit the Quad Cities this weekend. They're expected to attend the Rock Island County Democratic Party's 52nd Annual Labor Day Picnic on Monday.

The party says speakers will include Colorado US Senator Michael Bennett, Minnesota US Senator Amy Klobuchar, Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and spiritual advisor Marianne Williamson.

In addition, former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley will speak on behalf of former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke.

Other local and state officials are also expected to attend including Illinois US Senator Tammy Duckworth, 17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, and Rita Hart, running for Congress in Iowa's 2nd District.

The picnic will be held at the Rock Island County fairgrounds in East Moline.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
