Rawson Running for Mayor of Davenport

A two-term member of the Davenport City Council is running for mayor. Tuesday morning, 5th Ward Alderwoman Rita Rawson announced her candidacy to succeed Frank Klipsch who is not running for re-election.

Rawson says her priorities include improving infrastructure in the city, such as roads, sidewalks, and housing, sponsoring youth development programs, and improving public safety.

"In addition to those, I'd also like to focus on really looking at invigorating some of our older corridors in the area. Some examples are Rockingham Road, the geographical territory between Brady and Harrison, and some areas along Locust Street."

Rawson has served as the city council liaison to Davenport's Planning and Zoning Commission and the Riverfront Improvement Commission. She's also active in several neighborhood and other organizations in the city.

"I really see Davenport as being that city that other municipalities can look to for having progressive stances and positive momentum, development for economic infrastructure, as well as growth and jobs."

She works as a financial advisor and franchise owner for Ameriprise Financial.

Rawson is the second candidate for mayor, following the announcement in February by 7th Ward Alderman Mike Matson. A third candidate is expected to announce on Wednesday - Steve Duffy, a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
