Loebsack Will Retire Next Year

Dave Loebsack

Iowa Congressman Dave Loebsack says he will not run for re-election when his current term ends.  Friday the seven-term Democrat announced he will  retire at the end of his term after being elected seven times to represent southeast Iowa's 2nd Congressional District.

The 2nd District includes Clinton, the Quad Cities, Iowa City, and Muscatine.

Loebsack was first elected in 2006, when he beat 15-term Republican Jim Leach in a race still recalled for its civility. Before being elected to Congress, he was a political science professor at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.

Loebsack says he intended to serve no more than 12 years but decided to run for another term after Donald Trump was elected president.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
