New Symphony Center to Open in Galesburg

After nearly 75 years, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony Orchestra now has a place to call home.

Last year, it bought two historic buildings on Seminary Street in Galesburg, the Knox County Farm Bureau and Knox County Oil buildings.
Lucas Wood is the Executive Director of the orchestra.

"So, this is the first time that we will own a space that's our own, and have a place that people can come and experience the organization in ways other than just an orchestra concert in a venue."

Wood says they will start by renovating just a portion of the two buildings.

"We go in, we're going to renovate 3,800 square feet. The first floor. Restrooms, teaching spaces, multipurpose, there will be a snack bar, and some admin offices that are built for workshare."

Last week the Knox-Galesburg Symphony held a 'groundbreaking ceremony,' and Wood hopes the new head quarters can open by next spring.
