The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has awarded a grant of 100,000 dollars to the Bishop Hill Heritage Association.

Administrator Todd DeDecker says the money will help pay for storm windows for the 1853 Colony Store, additional roof bracing and a new roof for the 1854 Steeple Building, and a new roof for the 1851 Carpenter Building.

And he thanks State Representative Dan Swanson from Alpha for helping secure the grant.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
