Talking Art with Vanessa Sage
Figge Art Museum Assistant Curator Vanessa Sage will deliver a virtual lecture entitled Rebel Artists on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 6:30 PM. This is a free event, although registration is required. A Zoom link will be emailed to all participants several hours before the talk begins, and a Q&A session will be held following the conclusion of the lecture.
Inspired by the Figge’s current exhibition For America: 200 Years of Painting from the National Academy of Design, Vanessa Sage will explore individual as well as groups of artists who changed the course of art history through their personal aesthetic vision and acts of self-determination.
Listen to the conversation here about the tension and recurring cycles between conservative and more progressive artistic styles, historical examples of conflicts between artists and their arts organizations, and why she is attracted to paintings that convey societal messages and commentary.
The Figge Art Museum has enacted meticulous COVID-19 safety protocols making it a safe place to view their exhibitions. For America: 200 Years of Painting from the National Academy of Design will be on display through May 16, 2021. Don’t miss it!
