The Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg will host a series of documentary films during the first part of the year. Executive Director Erin Glasnovich said the theatre has shown documentaries in the past but never week-after-week as part of a series.

“When we ask for recommendations on what you would like to see, a lot of people have said they want to see more documentaries,” said Glasnovich.

The DocuSeries, as it’s being called, will be held each Friday from January 10 through February 7. Each film begins at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $5 per film.

The films:

  • January 10: Three Identical Strangers
  • January 17: Miss Representation
  • January 24: The Great Buster
  • January 31: Say Amen, Somebody
  • February 7: Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice

“What we want people to remember and not to lose is that community experience with their friends and neighbors -- to sit down and remember what it’s like to watch things with other people,” said Glasnovich.

“This place was built for that kind of experience. You’re not just paying to see the film. You’re paying for the experience all-around.”
