Figge Art Museum docent Carol Ehlers will give a lecture entitled "Making the Connection: French Moderns, Monet to Matisse 1850-1950" at the Butterworth Center in Moline at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15.

This is a free lecture, given as an introduction to the works that will be displayed at the upcoming French Modern exhibit at the Figge from October 9, 2018 until January 6, 2019. This world class exhibition will be the focus of a community wide celebration during which time numerous organizations will collaborate on French-themed events.

The century from 1850 to 1950 was characterized by significant political, social, and intellectual change in France, and that evolution is mirrored in the art produced during that time period. Carol Ehler’s free lecture will be meant as an introduction to this momentous time period and she will discuss representative artists from each of the major artistic movements, ranging from Realism through Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, and Surrealism.
