QCSO Hires New Executive Director

QCSO

The Quad City Symphony Orchestra has hired a new Executive Director. Wednesday morning, the board of trustees announced Brian Baxter will start his new job in February.

Currently, Baxter is the Chief Operating Officer for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras. The co-chairs of the orchestra's search committee say Baxter has a collaborative style and extensive experience managing community engagement programs.

During the nine years he's worked for the youth orchestras, Baxter has led three international tours, attracted 30 percent more students, and added several new groups and programs.

Baxter is also a musician and composer, and co-founded the Chicago Composers Orchestra.

He'll begin working in the Quad Cities on February 26th. And Michael Harring will continue as Interim Executive Director of the orchestra during the transition period.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
