Work has started to assure the long-term future of the Figge Art Museum. Today the Figge Task Force, appointed by Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba, held its first meeting.
Figge executive director Tim Schiffer says the city now contributes about one-third of the museum's annual budget, but that support might end in 20-23 when the contract with the city ends. And it would be difficult to raise the same amount from private donations.
Schiffer says he's talked with potential donors, but they want to know the city's plans first, before committing to help the Figge.
When the museum officially separated from the city in 2003, they signed a contract calling for 20 years of support, at 753,000 dollars a year. In return, it stores and exhibits Davenport's art collection.
The Figge Task Force has 6 members - three aldermen and three community residents.
