Rodeo Will Make i Wireless Center Very Dirty

Michelle O'Neill

Employees of the i Wireless Center will work all night to make sure this weekend's show is fun and safe. The World's Toughest Rodeo won't need an ice rink or even a stage for its performances Friday and Saturday. What the bulls, barrel racers, cowboys, clowns, and horses will need is six to eight inches of dirt.

Kevin Snodgrass is Director of Operations at the i wireless center. He says the third shift of ten to twelve workers will cover the ice late tonight.
Usually, he says the ice system is set at 14 degrees to keep the ice frozen.

Dirt insulates the ice even more, so we turn the temperature up. That ensures the ice doesn't get too hard and brittle underneath.

Tomorrow morning around 9:00, 100 truckloads of dirt will begin to arrive and dump it on the floor. That's about 2 million pounds. Rodeo employees will be in charge of spreading the dirt around the arena to make sure it's evenly distributed.

Then on Sunday, i Wireless employees will remove all the dirt, making sure nothing is damaged in the process. Snodgrass says that will take even longer than set-up.
