Remembering Bruce Carter

Bruce Walters

WVIK is mourning the loss of long-time program host, and friend, Bruce Carter. He died Monday at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a brief illness.
He was 66.

Carter first hosted Art Talks, a show about local arts and culture, on KALA Radio at Saint Ambrose University in 1991, and moved the show to WVIK in 1993 where it's been a weekly feature for 21 years.
He also managed a store in Moline for Dick Blick Arts Materials, and recently taught at Kaplan University in Davenport.
A decision about the future of Art Talks hasn't been made.
Funeral arrangements are pending.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
