After Judge Stanley Steines announced his retirement this December, Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White formed a committee to assess attorney Gary Spencer for the role.

The screening committee will get input from the public, interview Spencer, and report its findings to the state Supreme Court. If the court decides to appoint him, he will serve until the general election next year.
It's made up of residents of the 14th Circuit. The 14th Judicial Circuit includes Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Whiteside Counties.
Comments from the public will be accepted until Nov. 9 and can be sent to the Rock Island County Courthouse.
