Tonight, Corey Walker, Dean at Wake Forest University will present a lecture called "On Earth As It Is": Ethics and the Environment in the Age of the Anthropocene."
Walker says it's inspired by a speech from Martin Luther King Jr. challenging what it means to live in a community. He asks people to imagine how we might re-organize society in response to the current climate crisis.
"This is not about rearranging the chairs on the deck of a ship. This is really about fundamentally rebuilding the ship as we're floating together, and how do we do that together."
Walker hopes his audience will begin to ask new questions and come up with solutions.
"Hopefully I won't give some folks some directive to do x, y, and z. But instead it will spark creativity, conversation, and new modalities of collaboration in devloping fresh perspectives and new understanding."
Dr. Walker will present Ethics and the Environment tonight at 7 in the Denkmann building at Augustana in Rock Island.
