Fergus, a two-year old black labrador, is a professional therapy dog for the department, other first responders, and crime victims.
Officer Samantha Wheeler adopted Fergus in August. He comes to the station with her, and even comes on patrol with her.
"He mostly just, you know, is a dog. He likes to be pet, officers will come in and throw his ball for him, and help boost morale."
Studies have shown first responders are at increased risk of developing PTSD, depression, and anxiety.
Wheeler says the difference in her peers is noticeable.
"Somebody can come in after having a call where they're either frustrated, or, you know, something just didn't go right, and they interact with Fergus, and their entire mood changes," she said. "As everyone knows, you can't be upset when you're petting a dog."

Fergus and Wheeler are part of the station’s peer support team, which helps fellow police officers with their mental health.
