Whitey's Celebrates 90th Anniversary

Whitey's Ice Cream

Whitey's Ice Cream is celebrating its anniversary with the community this week. Whitey's is selling 90-cent cones at all locations through Sunday in honor of its 90 years.

Whitey's Vice President Annika Tunberg says they want to thank the Quad Cities for its nine decades of support.

"We know it's been tought couple of years for everybody, so we want to take a moment and give back to the community. We want to give everybody a chance to celebrate with us and have ice cream while we are at it."

Tunberg says Whitey's has been serving ice cream since 1933. Chester "Whitey" Lindgren, nicknamed for his white-blonde hair, founded the business in Moline. Bob Tunberg and his wife bought Whiteys' ten years later.

Now, Whiteys has eight locations in Illinois and Iowa.

"Our employees and customers are from the Quad Cities and the surrounding areas. Even if people have moved away, they still hold the Quad Cities and Whitey's at a special place in their heart. We are very fortunate to be in such community that loves to support Whitey's."

Whitey's is selling a special "90th birthday cake shake" this month and anniversary merchandise, inluding sweatshirts and coffe cups.
