Local Dashers Will Advocate For Flexible Job Legislation

Monica Dean

Wednesday in Springfield, five DoorDash delivery drivers, known as Dashers, will tell Illinois lawmakers about the importance of flexible earning jobs.

They earn a base salary, tips, and create their own schedules.

Monica Dean is a Quad Cities Door Dasher from Hampton who formerly worked as an accounting manager at an IT company.

She will share her experience as a Dasher with state representatives.

"I deliver to seniors in retirement homes and to disabled people that can't get around. Those are my special deliveries because it makes me feel like I did good for the day"

She says Dashers hope Illinois legislators will enact flexible job policies.

"If there is something that comes up, they will start thinking of us in the back of their mind and say 'this is something that affects these people,' so that is what we are hoping for."

Door Dash Corporate is organizing this meeting between workers and Illinois representatives, including Tony McCombie, Lisa Hernandez, and Bob Rita.
