Cheri Bustos has less than a month to go before she retires from the US House.

Bustos, a Democrat from Moline, serves on the Appropriations Committee and says there are twelve bills that need to be passed in the House and Senate, plus signed by the president.

She's also eager to make sure several local projects are funded, including $1 mil. for a manufacturing training academy at Black Hawk College. Bustos says the House passed that bill but the Senate hasn't.

She's also trying to secure $4 mil. for the Savanna Industrial Park's Anaerobic Digester. It would produce natural gas from food waste.

The 17th District Congresswoman was first elected in 2012. And about a year and a half ago, Bustos announced she would not run for reelection. Democrat Eric Sorensen won the seat last month.

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
