Director Anamaria Rocha says more money was spent this year than the first four years combined. In addition, Mercado had to create a waiting list for vendors.
And vendors have already been calling about next season.
"The space is very unique. I believe that where we are located is home of Mercado. I think it would make sense for us to start there and to see what we can do to expand the space from where we currently are, or just find different ways to be creative where we use indoor and outdoor space."
Rocha says one reason for Mercado's record-breaking season was greater exposure. Looking foward, she wants to "really hone in" on what aspiring business owners need to succeed.
"Most small businesses fail in the first five years. Having the ability to get your start at Mercado and having low fees I think is a huge help to a lot of these new businesses."
Mercado on Fifth is held from the end of May through September in downtown Moline, on 5th Avenue and 12th Street.
