Dr. Mary Kathleen Figaro is the Democratic Candidate for the 47th district.

Dr. Figaro is an endocrinologist, and if elected, she wants to ensure clean water and clean air for all.

"My particular portion-- District 47-- probably has the largest portion of the Mississippi River. As a river district it must protect, the space and the beautiful area that we've been given by God, and maintain it. I see us as people who should be guardians of the soil and the water."

Figaro would also want to ensure that public schools are fully funded.

"I think we need great public schools. New families are not drawn by our amenities, they're drawn by strong public school systems. I really think we need to think about how public dollars are used. School tax dollars should only be used in public institutions."

Personally, Figaro is pro-life, but emphasizes she is not pro-birth, and doesn't want legislature to dictate women's medical decisions.
Her Republican opponent in the 47th Iowa Senate District is Scott Webster.

Despite attempts to contact Webster, WVIK was unable to interview him.
