RI Mayor Running for State Senate

Mike Thoms Campaign Website

After serving as Mayor of Rock Island since 2017, Republican Mike Thoms is running for State Senate in the 36th District.

He decided to run because he disagrees with several new laws such as the SAFE-T law, which eliminates cash bail except in cases where the defendent is a danger to someone. He also wants to lower taxes.

"A lot of the politicians were not listening to their constituents on what their real needs are. And you can either sit on the sideline and complain about things or get you can involved, and I decided to get involved and see if i can make a difference."

Because of his background in building a business, Thoms thinks he can convince people to come to Illinois. If elected, he also hopes to make it easier for teachers and nurses to work in Illinois.

"That's what it's about. It's understanding the people. It's not understanding the party. It's not a party platform, it's not whether its Democrats or Republicans. It's what the people are looking for. What are their needs, what will make them have a better quaility of life?"

His Democratic opponent for the Illinois State Senate is Mike Halpin.
