Brittany Schlacter from the Bissell Pet Foundation, says that this nation-wide event increases adoption rates.
"What better way than create a program that provides grant funding to shelters? Then, people are able to adopt a pet and they get it for a little bit less. It comes vaccinated, spayed/neutered, microchipped and licensed."

The foundation contributes 50 dollars for every dog adoption and 20 dollars for every cat.
Schlacter says, Bissell Pet Foundation holds emergency events, as well.

"Emergency 'Empty the Shelter' events are typically with shelters and rescues that we've already partnered with, but we are always open to working with shelters in crisis. Often times, we get connected with that we've never worked with before; after a natural disaster."

The shelters participating near the Quad Cities are the Clinton Humane Society, the Dubuque Regional Humane Society, and Peoria Animal Protection Services.
