Von Maur Named 2022's No. 1 Retailer

A Davenport-based department store chain has been named America's Number One Retailer. Newsweek surveyed over ten thousand consumers in almost 40 categories and respondents chose Von Maur.

CEO Jim von Maur credits their excellent customer service for being named the number one retailer.
von Maur said, "Retailers have tried to do things to improve their business. It's not all about shopping on the internet or discounting. People still want to have a nice shopping experience: touch and feel the merchandise and interact with enthusiastic associates."
von Maur attributes his company's survival, at a time when other retailers have closed or are cutting back, is due to how well they treat their employees.
The CEO said that the chains, "... number one concern was taking care of the associates. What can we do to make sure its a good transition for them, make sure they weren't without insurance and constantly communicate to them when we would reopen and get things back up and running. We value our associates and we did not want to abandon them or leave them in the lurch."
Von Maur was founded 150 years ago and he is the fourth generation of the family to run the company. It now has 40 locations in 15 states.
