The team belongs to the Professional Indoor Football League and will face the Iowa Barnstormers at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline.

Head Coach Cory Ross says lots of his players are local, including Raekwon Jefferson who's from Bettendorf and 19-year-old Nate Sheets, who played a year with the Augustana Vikings after graduating from Alleman High School in Rock Island.
Ross also says the Steamwheelers are working to make all the players feel at home. The team and Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce hosted a reverse job fair for them during tryouts.
During their first season, the Quad City Steamwheelers broke league attendance records and finished with a 8 and 4 regular season record. Ross hopes to continue to attract fans with high energy, fast-paced games at the TaxSlayer Center.
Kickoff for the 'Wheelers home opener against the Barnstormers is tonight 7:00.

In the first game of the season, they lost on the road to the Sioux Falls Storm. By the way, the Sioux Falls team mascot is a bear named "Blitz." The Quad Cities hockey team is also called the Storm. And the mascot's name is a fox named "Radar."
