And Kurt Liske from the Scott County Waste Commission says make sure you're not putting the tree in the recycling bin.
"If you've got a live tree, we recommend that you take it down to the compost facility in the west end of Davenport. If you've got an artificial tree that for some reason you're just getting rid of, not just stashing it for the next year...the message is just keep it out of your recycling cart."

He says there's always a few trees that get recycled every year, and they get caught up in the Waste Commission's equipment.
"Even though they may have good intentions, those good intentions of dropping that old Christmas tree in the recycling cart actually just creates more headaches for us."
