The featured speaker was Lieutenant General Antonio Aguto, Commanding General of the First Army. He calls himself "a proud First Army soldier, a proud U.S. Army soldier, and a proud veteran."

"Even today when the banter and tensions of discourse and divisions seem to occupy us, make no mistake, this country and all of us represented by you here today will still come together to listen and remember and honor the stories of our veterans. This day, the day of the veteran, is all about their stories, remembering them, and sharing them with one another. And it's all about pausing to recognize that each of our own stories as American citizens is shaped by the stories and the sacrifice of the veterans and their families who have gone before us."

He was joined by Iowa Second District Congresswoman, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who also served in the Army.

The ceremony included a wreath laying, honor salute by local veterans, and the playing of taps.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
